Magic was in the air, and even the muggles could feel it! Fantastic Beasts premiere was a huge success.
In the newest Warner Bros. film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York in 1962 for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident were it not for Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.
The cast includes Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne), Gellert Grindelwald (played by Johnny Depp), Percival Graves (played by Colin Ferrell), Madam Ya Zou (played by Gemma Chan), and many more remarkable characters.
For the after party, THE FIRM, formerly known as Samantha Sackler Productions, team transformed the Central Park Zoo for the premiere. As guests entered the space, they walked upon the preexisting cobble stone path and entered the streets of New York during the 1920’s. Brick walls with “Wanted” posters and store front replicas from the film lined the tent. As guests moved through the streets of New York themed tent, they entered the wand permitting office. This tent was dressed with ceiling high cabinets and the desk of Porpentina Goldstein, one of the main characters from the film.
As they made their entrance into the main tent, they were welcomed into the MACUSA lobby. Custom fabricated walls with brown and white stripes made from fabric lined the 120’ tent. The wall was dressed with custom made green sconces to give off a ministry feel.
Hung in the center of the lobby was a 3’x3’ replica of the “threat meter.” Statues of golden eagles flanked the door way to the Central Park Sea Lion pool. Continuing down the lobby, guests were drawn to the third tent, which continued the aesthetic of New York Streets. On this block, guests were welcomed with a 16’ candy bar, demonstrations of the new mobile and Lego games and a Virtual Reality experience.
At the edge of the tent was a facsimile of the iconic bakery from the film. As you entered the bakery, the walls were bordered with over eight dozen various custom baked breads. Specialty pastries that were designed in the shapes of the beasts and displayed behind the bakery counter. To bring the film to life, THE FIRM team brought in over 300 various props like suitcases, crates, barrels, apothecary jars and more, to completely immerse guests in the 1920’s.
VIP seating was comprised of both the Cambridge and Dakota collections from designer8*. The Cambridge Bar was featured in the main tent underneath the “threat meter,” a focal point of the event. Designer8*’s Rustic Bar was used to accent the streets of New York. To add additional seating for guests, the Axel Collection was brought in. And finally, to bring the bakery to life, the Aiden collection served as the bakery counter and shelving space.
